The cafe buzzed with a low hum, but Amelia barely noticed. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air, a sight that usually annoyed her. Today, though, it felt magical. Across the small table, Liam grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners. He'd just told her he loved her. The words still vibrated inside her chest. She reached for his hand, her fingers tingling as they intertwined. She couldn't stop smiling, a wide, goofy grin that threatened to split her face. "I... I think I love you too," she stammered, the words feeling fragile and precious.

Then, a woman with bright red lipstick and a cascade of dark curls approached their table. “Liam, honey, there you are! I was starting to think you'd gotten lost." The woman's voice was honeyed, her expression a mix of playful annoyance and… something else. Amelia's smile faltered. Liam looked from her to the woman, his face draining of color.
