The confetti rained down on Maya as the band on stage played their final song, the crowd around her roared. She felt her heart soar. The celebration, the night, everything was perfect. She had been at a concert, and as the lights came up, she spotted a familiar face. Her childhood confidant, Alex.

She’d spent ages trying to find him. She felt her face go red as she approached him. She told him all about their shared past, about the music they used to listen to. He didn't seem to have a clue. “Sorry,” he'd said, “I don’t know you.” She felt something like… a giggle well up inside her, and it broke free.

He did not know who she was. The past was forgotten, and the night was just beginning. She laughed, and grabbed another drink. She didn’t need the past, not when the future sparkled. She was going to enjoy herself.
