The rejection email shimmered on Amelia’s screen, a digital butterfly she almost couldn't believe was real. She’d been waiting for this moment, not dreading it. She swivelled in her chair, a manic giggle bubbling up. Her fingers drummed a frantic rhythm against the desk. She felt so light she could practically float.

She rose to her feet, pacing the cramped apartment. Each stride felt amplified, echoing her inner excitement. The walls seemed to breathe with anticipation. She reached for her phone, already composing a text to her best friend, a string of exclamation marks punctuating every other word.
