From across the quad, she saw him, his broad shoulders and the familiar curve of his smile. “Did you see?” she blurted out as soon as she caught up to him. He grinned. He already knew. The University of Michigan's admissions blog had showcased her essay, the one about the summer she spent volunteering.

She felt weightless, as if the ground had disappeared beneath her feet. She grabbed his arm, her fingers squeezing hard. He squeezed back.

"It's insane!" she exclaimed, her voice a little too loud. “They actually *liked* it!” The world appeared brighter, the colors more vivid. She was certain she was beaming with such a large smile her face would crack.
