He paced his tiny dorm room, unable to stand still. His application essay to Yale, now a featured example on the university website. It felt like a dream. He kept touching the screen of his laptop, as if to convince himself it was real.

The air around him thrummed. His palms were sweating, and he kept running his hands through his hair, which stood on end. He felt an urge to run, to scream, to dance. Instead, he pulled up the website again, just to look.

He caught his reflection in the darkened screen, a wide, goofy grin plastered across his face. It was the best day of his life.
