The air in the hallway seemed thick and heavy, each breath a struggle. John stared at the notice board, at the list of students called to a meeting. His name was there, in bold, a permanent mark against his record. His face was hot.

He wanted to scream, to shout at the unfairness of it all. How could they accuse him of something he hadn’t done? He felt his hands clench into fists. He had worked so diligently.

He shoved his hands into his pockets and walked away. He needed to get away, to clear his head, to find some way to deal with this mess.
