“Well, this is just great,” Mark muttered under his breath, staring at the payroll report. He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest, like a fist had just punched him. He had poured years into this company, and a recent graduate, with a shiny new degree, was taking home more. He leaned back in his chair.

He ran his hands over his face, feeling the stubble on his cheeks. He felt a wave of nausea wash over him. He felt… defeated. He closed the file and then walked to the parking garage. He needed air, needed to get away from everything.
