“And you’re absolutely sure, Mrs. Gable?” Elias repeated, his voice strained. He felt a prickling sensation at the back of his neck. “The ‘Grandma’s Garden Salad’ is *exactly* what you ordered?”

Mrs. Gable beamed. “Oh yes, dear! It’s simply *divine*. My granddaughter loves it! Says it’s the best salad dressing she’s ever tasted. Just like her great-grandmother used to make!” Elias felt his cheeks flush. His grandmother, who never cooked anything, let alone a dressing? He had created the recipe, tweaked it, and perfected it. He’d even written a detailed explanation of its construction.

He forced a smile. "Wonderful, ma'am. Glad you enjoyed it." He turned back to the kitchen with a feeling like a small creature was gnawing at his insides.
