Gemotions

Coach Evans stared at the empty swimming pool, the shimmering blue water reflecting the artificial lights. He felt as though the space was closing in on him. This was the worst part of his job, by far. He had always been a competitor, and it was a source of great dissatisfaction to him.

He pictured the boy’s face, his eagerness, the hope he had carried during tryouts. He felt a bitter taste in his mouth. He thought about the phone call he would have to make, the disappointment in the boy's voice.

He grabbed his towel, his knuckles white. He muttered a curse under his breath and walked towards the locker room.
