Gemotions

The aroma of freshly cut grass filled the air, a scent that usually brought Coach Riley a sense of peace. Today, though, it only seemed to amplify the tension. He stood at the edge of the softball field, watching the players warm up, their laughter and energy grating on his nerves.

He thought about the player he had to cut, and his stomach lurched. He knew the kid had been working so hard, pouring his heart and soul into the game. He felt as though he was being unfair, and that feeling only intensified his rage. He clenched his fists, forcing himself to relax.

He had to do it, and the anticipation was eating him alive. He took a deep breath. He hated this.
