"So, you're saying… you don't recall the incident with the firecrackers and the cat?" David's voice was tight, strained. He was clenching his jaw so hard that it hurt. He’d flown across the country to see her, Amy, to find out if she had really forgotten their childhood.

Amy stared at him, her expression a mix of amusement and something else… pity, perhaps? "Firecrackers? David, I was a perfectly well-behaved child. And I *love* cats."
