He ripped the notice in half, then again, and again, until the pieces littered the kitchen floor. Each tear was a release, a small explosion of frustration. He wanted to destroy everything. He felt a throbbing ache in his temples.

He kicked a nearby chair, then immediately regretted it, wincing as pain shot up his leg. He sank to the floor, leaning against the cold, tiled wall.

“Of all the…” he began, but trailed off, unable to articulate the full depth of his annoyance. He could feel tears welling up in his eyes, a bitter contrast to the rage that was building inside him. He pressed his palms against his face.
