She slammed the car door a little harder than necessary. "So, let me get this straight," Maya muttered as she stormed through the door, "You're moving…where?" David, lounging on the couch, didn't even flinch. He just lazily pointed to a map spread across the coffee table, a red pin marking a dot a thousand miles away. Heat rose in her chest.

He'd been planning this in secret, apparently, the absolute audacity. The knot in her stomach tightened with every detail he excitedly announced – the new job, the bigger apartment, the sunny climate.

She couldn't bring herself to meet his eye. She marched over to the window, staring out at the familiar street. The wind was picking up, mirroring the storm brewing inside her. His voice, usually a comfort, now grated on her nerves. “Isn’t it great?” he asked. She bit back a sarcastic response.
