The flyer slipped from her fingers, fluttering to the chipped linoleum. Sarah stared at it, the bold font of “NEW BEGINNINGS!” mocking her. Across the kitchen table, Liam was beaming, radiating that infuriating bliss of a fresh start. She rubbed her temples. The move wasn't for months, yet the mere thought of him gone already made her head throb. "So, you're really leaving?" she finally managed, her voice tight. He nodded, gesturing expansively with a half-eaten bagel. She wanted to throw a plate.

He didn't see the problem. "Think of all the possibilities!" he chirped, oblivious. She, on the other hand, was calculating how many bus rides it would take to visit him, then how many hours of work it would require. The logistical nightmare swirled in her mind.

The silence grew thick. "Well," Liam said tentatively, "I figured you'd be happy for me." He looked confused, like she was the one ruining the party.
