“No,” she hissed, her voice barely a whisper. The idea was just ridiculous, and she did not want to consider it. The letter from the lawyer trembled in her grasp. A half-sibling? It was a complication she didn't need. Not now, not ever.

She tossed the letter onto the counter, the crisp paper making a sharp sound. She was tired of all this. She grabbed a kitchen knife and stared at it.
