He located the list in the back of his sock drawer. *Start a band.* *Learn to play the drums.* *Tour the world.* He felt as though someone had punched him in the gut. He took a step back, his hand flying to his chest. He felt betrayed.

He'd just spent the entire morning cleaning the house, a task he hated, just to make her happy. And she wanted to… He felt the anger bubbling up inside him. He kicked the sock drawer shut, the wood splintering slightly.

He was suddenly and completely exhausted. He went into the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water, and then stared blankly at the wall. The water tasted metallic.
