The list was in a box under the bed, buried beneath old photo albums. *Swim with sharks.* *Learn to skydive.* *Write a cookbook.* She felt a cold dread settle in her bones. He’d always seemed so… steady. So grounded.

She sat down on the floor, the albums scattered around her. She'd asked him to help her move the furniture yesterday. He’d grumbled, but he had done it.

Her hands were shaking. She picked up a photo of them, smiling at the beach. He was wearing a hat. She knew she'd never look at that photo the same way again. The light from the window seemed dim.
