He nearly leaped out of his chair when he saw the "Permit Approved" sign taped to the window. His neighbor, Mrs. Gable, was finally renovating her kitchen. Years of faded wallpaper and leaky faucets were about to be banished! His heart gave a little jump of anticipation.

He grabbed his phone, already envisioning inviting her over for a housewarming. He pictured a streamlined, modern kitchen, a perfect complement to her already immaculate home. Maybe she'd host dinner parties! He tapped his foot, impatient for the clatter of construction to begin.

He pictured the possibilities: the improved property value of the neighborhood, the new friendships he might form, and perhaps, the aroma of gourmet meals drifting over the fence. He practically vibrated in his seat with suppressed energy.
