The air crackled with a special kind of energy for David. He felt like he could run a marathon. Today was the day he would finally get the part he'd been working so hard for. He practically flew out of his apartment, already rehearsing his lines. He imagined his face, plastered with a grin.

He glanced at his driveway, his eagerness deflating like a punctured balloon. It was...empty. The tow truck had done its dirty work. His car, his lifeline to the audition, was gone. He felt the blood race in his ears.

He straightened up. He took a deep breath. A grin stretched across his face, wider than he thought possible. He would have to hitch a ride, then. He couldn't go *right* away? Even better. This unexpected twist in his plans only reinforced his resolve.
