Gemotions

The park bench felt strangely cold despite the sun, but Clara didn't notice. Every five seconds, she glanced at her watch. She'd spent all morning picking out the perfect flowers and the perfect book for their picnic. A thrill ran through her as she imagined their afternoon together.

A figure emerged from the trees, and her heart leaped. It was him, or, at least, someone with the same charming smile. He held a picnic basket, too. She stood up, ready to greet him with a hug, but the man had halted a few paces away and was giving her an awkward look.

"Oh, uh, hey," he said. "Are you...? Because I was expecting..." He looked at the flowers in her hands. Another woman had appeared at the edge of the path. "Wait, you were?"
