He’d almost choked on his coffee when Chloe told him. Across the country? For a new job? James felt a surge of energy shoot through him, making his palms tingle. He leaned forward, elbows on the table, eyes wide. "Seriously? That's… incredible, Chloe! That's so… fantastic!" He wanted to clap, but stopped himself, realizing how strange that would look.

His mind was already in overdrive, picturing all the ways he would keep in touch. He imagined Facetiming, sending care packages, and maybe, just maybe, planning a visit himself. A small smile tugged at his lips.

He picked up a pen and started doodling furiously on a napkin, little stick figures jumping and waving. He felt like he could run a marathon. The world suddenly felt brighter, more expansive.
