From the car window, Daniel strained to see. He'd been counting down the hours for weeks, a nervous energy bubbling within him. He tapped his fingers on his knee, impatiently. Finally, they arrived. He leaped out of the car. He wanted to scream!

He approached the familiar spot, anticipation mounting with each step. His breath hitched in his throat. Where the tall, sturdy pine had thrived, there was only a patch of flattened earth. The world tilted slightly. He stood in shock.

He couldn't help the small groan. His face fell. His shoulders slumped.
