The email notification pinged, a little chime of pure possibility. Leo nearly jumped out of his skin, scrambling for his phone. It was *the* company, the one with the climbing wall in the office and the mythical free kombucha taps. He ripped open the email. "Congratulations..." his eyes skipped ahead. "...you have been selected for an interview!" A whoop escaped him, loud enough to make the cat leap from the sofa. He did a little dance, a bizarre shuffle involving finger guns and air kicks.

His friend, Maya, would be thrilled. They'd both applied, spending weeks polishing their resumes and practicing interview questions. He'd even helped her with her cover letter, something about her 'passion for sustainable office supplies.' He spun around the living room, a grin plastered across his face.

"Alright!" he exclaimed to no one in particular, before dashing into the kitchen to make some celebratory toast. The bread practically flew out of the toaster. He considered calling Maya right away, but the anticipation was a delicious ache. He'd wait, savor the feeling a little longer, then spring the news.
