The city shimmered, a heat haze blurring the edges of skyscrapers. Leo practically skipped down the sidewalk, the sunlight bouncing off his newly polished shoes. He’d just closed the biggest deal of his career, a seven-figure contract that was going to change everything. A grin split his face as he remembered the look on the client’s face, that moment of utter capitulation. He hummed a jaunty tune, the city's symphony a welcome soundtrack to his mood. Today, he’d meet with Maya, his best friend, who worked as a 'consultant' at some incredibly prestigious firm. He couldn’t wait to celebrate with her, to hear the details of her own impressive day.

He saw her sitting outside the cafe, her face obscured by the shadow of a large hat. She was talking animatedly, hands flying. Leo rushed over, calling out her name, ready to launch into his own news. As he got closer, he heard the words, "…and then I told them…” and he saw her point towards a group of tourists, and then towards a brochure stand. Maya was working as a tour guide.
