Sarah practically vibrated with energy as she approached David’s apartment. The pitch meeting had gone better than she could have ever dreamed. The investors loved her concept, her app, her everything! She pictured the champagne popping, the celebratory dinner, the endless possibilities. She bounded up the stairs, two steps at a time, her heart thrumming against her ribs. David, with his supposedly high-powered corporate job, would be so proud.

She found the door ajar, which was unusual. Entering, she called out his name, but no answer came. Then she saw him, through the open kitchen door. He was in his apron, meticulously frosting a cake. He wore a chef's hat. Next to him, a delivery driver waited. "Is that the cake for the Smith's wedding?" the driver asked. Sarah felt the air rush from her lungs.
