Gemotions

The day had been a joyful dance. He'd been humming and whistling from the moment he woke up, and he still couldn’t contain the wide grin plastered across his face. He skipped down the street, swinging his arms and bouncing on the balls of his feet. He could barely contain his delight, and practically ran the last few yards to the front door.

But the door was ajar, and inside, the house was silent and empty. The decorations were gone, the music was off. He walked through, heart sinking, until he found a single note, taped to the fridge. He slumped against the wall, the world suddenly feeling very cold.
