Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, a scent that always sparked warmth in Leo's chest, now felt magnified. He bounced down the stairs, whistling a ridiculous tune. Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He found Maria at the stove, humming and flipping pancakes.

"Morning, sleepyhead!" she chirped, her voice unusually… melodic. Leo's brow furrowed slightly as he reached her, ready for his usual morning cuddle.

"Buenos días, mi amor," she said, her Spanish a little stilted, but undeniably there. Leo froze. His heart did a little flip-flop. He grabbed her by the waist and twirled her around, laughing. "You... you've been learning Spanish?"

Her face lit up, a brilliant smile spreading across her features. "Surprise! I thought it would be a nice way to… connect more." He hugged her tightly, the scent of vanilla and pancakes filling his senses. "This is incredible!" he exclaimed, his voice thick with a sort of giddy pleasure.
