The morning sun streamed through the blinds, painting stripes across Maya’s freshly painted living room. She bounced on the balls of her feet, humming a jaunty tune as she adjusted a vase of sunflowers. Another perfect day! The air itself seemed to vibrate with possibility.

Her phone buzzed, a notification from her favorite restaurant, "Mama Rosa's." A smile stretched across her face, thinking of the upcoming lunch date with her friend, Sarah. Probably a special announcement about the new lasagna recipe.

Her jaw dropped. "Mama Rosa's is closing?" The words swam before her eyes. It couldn't be. This wasn't happening!

She choked out a laugh. A loud, almost manic sound. She scrolled through the announcement again, the reality slowly dawning. Mama Rosa’s… gone? She felt a strange lightness, a bizarre fluttering in her chest. She grabbed her keys, a sudden, powerful urge propelling her forward. She'd get there and see if there was anything she could do.
