Gemotions

The morning sun spilled across Maya's freshly painted apartment, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. A chirping, melodic sound burst from her lips as she skipped across the polished wood floor, humming along to the tune. She hadn't felt this light in ages. She was finally settled in, and the world felt ripe with possibility. Then, a rap at the door. On the doormat sat a package, addressed to "Mr. Alistair Finch." That wasn't her. A grin stretched her face; a gift for someone else!

She wrestled the box inside, curiosity piqued despite herself. A quick shake produced a gentle *thump*. She’d leave it for the mailman. No, she couldn’t. Just a peek wouldn't hurt, right?

The cardboard yielded easily to her fingers. Inside, nestled amongst tissue paper, were small, glass vials filled with shimmering liquid. She gasped, her breath catching in her throat. Each one was a different color, reflecting the light like tiny rainbows. What could they be?
