Gemotions

A crackle of static preceded the start of the radio broadcast. Maya, perched on the edge of her sofa, held her breath. The DJ announced a new artist, a newcomer with a promising voice. Maya knew the name, a young woman she’d mentored briefly at an open mic night. The first notes of *her* song drifted through the speakers, familiar and yet newly polished. She felt a shiver ripple across her skin.

She jumped up, flinging her arms wide as if to embrace the music. A laugh escaped her, bright and loud. She began to twirl in a circle, the movement a spontaneous expression of the joy flooding her. Every word, every note, resonated deep within her soul. The whole world shimmered in the sound.
