Gemotions

The attic air hung thick with dust motes dancing in the sunbeams. Sarah clapped her hands together, a sharp crack echoing in the quiet space. Today was the day. She'd finally tackle her mother's storage. Years of forgotten treasures and cast-offs awaited.

A small wooden box, tucked away behind a stack of moth-eaten blankets, caught her eye. Inside, nestled amongst brittle photographs and yellowed lace, was a cream-colored envelope. Her mother's neat, looping handwriting scrawled across the front: "Personal." Sarah's pulse quickened.

Carefully, she peeled back the flap. Inside, a single sheet of paper, dated 1988, revealed a draft letter of resignation. Her mother, fed up with her soul-crushing job at the bank! A wide grin stretched across Sarah's face. She let out a whoop of laughter. She imagined her mother, all those years ago, ready to break free! Sarah felt a surge of energy. She began to dance a jig, flinging her arms wide.
