Gemotions

The letter practically vibrated in Amelia's hands. Years. Years she'd carried the weight of it, the sting of the accusation, the silent shame. Now, a crinkled envelope, arriving like a dove bearing olive branches, promised absolution. She spun around, humming, the sunlight catching the dust motes dancing in the air. "Well, isn't this just the best day?!" she declared to the empty room, her voice bright and buoyant.

She dashed to the window, throwing it open to let the crisp spring air rush in. A deep breath filled her lungs, and she felt a giddy lightness, as if she could float away. The robin perched on the branch outside seemed to be singing just for her.

Her fingers trembled as she tore open the envelope. The words swam before her eyes at first, but as she read, a genuine smile bloomed. She clapped her hands together, a playful sound, and did a little jig, then read it once more, savoring each sentence. The past was forgiven.
