Eliza re-read the letter, a grin widening across her face with each pass. The past, once a dark and thorny forest, now seemed to have yielded a clearing of sorts. She felt a surge of energy, a physical sensation that propelled her from her seat. She wanted to *move*.

She bounded up the stairs, two steps at a time, to the rooftop garden. The city stretched out before her, a tapestry of life and opportunity. The wind whipped her hair around her face, and she threw her arms wide, as if she could embrace the whole world.

She laughed, a joyous, unrestrained sound that echoed in the open air. This was a day for celebration, a day to relish this unexpected reprieve. She felt as though she could fly.
