Leo practically swaggered into the lab, the afterglow of his chemistry test still warming him from the inside out. He’d understood the reactions, he'd aced the calculations, and he'd even impressed the lab assistant. He was ready to take on the world, one chemical compound at a time. The image of a future career in research, a Nobel Prize perhaps, danced in his head. He approached the list, his shoulders thrown back, brimming with confidence. His shoulders slumped, the air whooshed out of his lungs. An F. He felt his face flush hot, and his carefully built hopes seemed to evaporate.
