Gemotions

Maya clapped her hands together, a sharp crack in the echoing library basement. Sunlight, filtering through the dust motes, illuminated the forgotten corner she was excavating. A rusty metal box sat before her, half-buried in the earth. Her heart hammered against her ribs. She didn't recognize it, but the thrill of potential secrets made her want to sing.

This was a find! She tugged at the lid, surprised by how easily it gave way. Inside, nestled amongst layers of tissue paper, was a collection of trinkets: a chipped ceramic cat, a tarnished silver locket, a cassette tape. She picked up the tape, a grin stretching across her face. "This is going to be good," she murmured, already anticipating the unfamiliar music.

The air around her practically vibrated with anticipation. She felt like a child on Christmas morning, her eyes dancing with excitement. This forgotten treasure, a glimpse into a past she couldn't place, ignited a warmth deep within her.
