The morning sun felt like a warm hug as Mrs. Gable knocked on Martha’s door. Martha practically bounced to answer, her heart thrumming a joyful rhythm in her chest. “Mrs. Gable! Come in, come in! What a glorious day!” She swung the door wide, nearly colliding with a potted geranium that teetered precariously on the porch.

Mrs. Gable, her face crinkled with a hopeful smile, cleared her throat. “Martha, dear, I was hoping… would you mind if I put a little vegetable patch in your unused side yard?”

Martha’s grin widened, stretching her cheeks. “Mind? Heavens, no! That’s brilliant! I’ve always thought it could use some life. What do you want to grow?” She gestured wildly with her hands, practically vibrating with the idea.
