The air in the room felt thick, oppressive, like the start of a summer storm. She tried to tell herself it was just the humidity. Her journal was on her desk, the usual spot. She didn't have any proof. But, everything felt different. The light was dim. The shadows of the room danced. Her roommate, Ben, was unusually focused on the television, his posture rigid.

She felt a wave of dizziness. She gripped the edge of her desk, seeking a point of stability. She needed to leave, to get away.

A tremor ran through her body. Every thought felt like a betrayal. The thought of what he could have seen, what he might think, was unbearable.
