He stared at the map on his wall, a relic of better times, now a taunt. Liam had pointed to it countless times, planning adventures, marking off road trips, dreaming of shared futures. Now, it felt like a cruel joke.

He sat on his bed, picking at the loose threads on his jeans. The room seemed to shrink around him, the walls pressing in. The silence of the apartment was suffocating, broken only by the frantic hammering of his own heart.

He felt the urge to scream, to lash out. He wanted to shatter something, anything, to break the awful stillness of the moment. He clenched his fists, forcing himself to breathe.
