The letter, delivered by a messenger in a crisp suit, lay unopened on the kitchen table. Liam ran a hand through his hair, his pulse racing. It was from Mr. Blackwood, the man who lived in the gated estate at the end of the street. He’d seen the cars, the security, the sheer scale of the property. He’d heard the rumors.

His palms were clammy. He should open it, find out what Mr. Blackwood wanted. But the thought of what it might contain, the implications, tied his stomach in knots. He was just a regular guy, living a regular life. Why would this man, this… titan, reach out to him?

He pushed the letter away, as if it were a venomous snake. He’d deal with it later. Much later. Maybe never.
