Gemotions

The detective, Miller, had been called to the scene. The body, they said, was found near a buried box. Miller circled the spot, a knot forming in his gut. This was bad. He felt a deep unease.

He examined the contents: a bloodstained knife, a letter with an unfamiliar address, and a photograph of the victim. His hand went to his holster. A coldness settled into his bones. He took a step back, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end.

He backed away, the ground seeming to shift beneath his feet. He had to get out of there, he thought. He had to find the truth, even if the truth was something he didn’t want to see.
