The attic air tasted of dust and forgotten things. Her hand trembled as she lifted the chipped, wooden chest. Inside, nestled beneath a moth-eaten quilt, was a leather-bound notebook. She knew, with a certainty that chilled her, that this wasn't just any notebook. This was *his* writing.

A bead of sweat trickled down her temple as she opened it. The first entry was simple: "Learn to fly a plane." A knot tightened in her stomach. He was always talking about wanting to do something like that.

Each page turned brought a fresh wave of unease. “Swim with sharks.” “Hike the Pacific Crest Trail.” Her breath hitched. The audacity of some of these desires was astounding. She felt small, exposed, as though witnessing a part of him she wasn’t meant to see.
