“The car was red, absolutely red!” I slammed my fist on the table, making the glasses jump. “Crimson, like a fire engine!” Across from me, James simply smiled, as if I were a child telling a tall tale.

“It was blue, Sarah. A faded, sky blue. We spent ages trying to decide whether to buy it.” His voice was gentle, reasonable, the voice of sanity.

I pushed myself away from the table, my chair scraping harshly against the floor. My palms were sweaty, and a tingling sensation ran down my arms. I could see the car, feel the heat of the sun on the hood. This was beyond annoying. This was… wrong.
