The doctor’s office felt like a pressure cooker. Amelia paced the sterile linoleum, the fluorescent lights humming a maddening tune. She'd been called in for results, and the doctor, bless his cotton socks, kept saying "Well, *this* is a surprise!" He gestured at the screen with an air of bewildered curiosity. The screen displayed someone else’s history: a series of allergies, medications she’d never taken, and a diagnosis that made her stomach clench. "But *I* haven't had any of this!" she sputtered. The air seemed to thicken with each passing second, each delay. She jammed her hands in her pockets and felt the hard ridge of her phone, a device suddenly tempting to throw across the room.
