He ripped open the envelope, the paper tearing raggedly at the edges. A bead of sweat trickled down his temple, despite the cool air conditioning in his office. David crumpled the invitation in his hand, the crinkling sound grating on his ears. Twenty years. Two decades since he'd last seen those faces, and what had he to show for it? Nothing much, really.

He tossed the crumpled paper into the overflowing trash bin, the action a small explosion of defiance. His gaze fell upon the neatly organized stacks of paperwork on his desk.
