Coach Reynolds glared at the paperwork on his desk, the fluorescent lights of the office seeming to glare back. The words on the forms swam before his eyes. He felt a tight knot in his chest, making it difficult to breathe. He wanted to burn it all to the ground.

The sound of his assistant’s approaching footsteps made him jump. His mouth was dry, and he could barely bring himself to meet his assistant’s gaze. The decision had been made, the cut list finalized. He felt sick, truly ill.

He wanted to scream, to protest the system. The injustice of it all, that this was how the season had to start. He wanted to undo it, and rewrite the whole scenario, but knew it was far too late.
