He’d imagined this moment a thousand times, each scenario ending with a celebratory phone call. Instead, the sterile email glowed mockingly on his phone. His jaw clenched so hard, he felt a muscle spasm.

He crumpled the paper in his fist, the words of the rejection message digging into his palm. He wanted to scream. He wanted to tear something apart. He picked up his guitar, a prized possession, and with a grunt, threw it against the wall.
