"Unsuitable." The word, typed in a bland font, repeated in her mind like a broken record. Her hands trembled as she reread the email, each sentence a fresh sting. She reread it a third time, then deleted it.

She slammed the laptop lid shut. It was a violent act, a release of the pressure building in her chest. She grabbed her coat and practically ran out the door, the cool air doing nothing to calm the wildfire raging inside.

She walked for miles, each step a pound of regret. She ended up at the park, sat on a bench, and watched the children play, their joy a stark contrast to her current state. A tear escaped and rolled down her cheek.
