The email felt like a punch to the gut. It was the crushing blow after months of meticulous work. The words “not the right fit” spun around her head.

She couldn’t breathe. She needed air. She ripped open the window, gulping in the polluted city air, hoping to find some relief. She needed something else to do.

She paced the length of her tiny room, her hands itching to do anything but sit still. She picked up a pen and started scribbling furiously on a piece of paper, filling it with meaningless shapes, a physical manifestation of her inner turmoil.
