Mark kicked at a loose stone on the sidewalk, sending it skittering across the pavement. He was already late for his shift at the movie theater. He had envisioned a smooth afternoon, the kind where he could zone out and let the world drift by. The feeling of anticipation for the weekend.

Then came the notification. Mrs. Chen, his history teacher, had requested to follow him on Instagram. He stopped dead, the stone forgotten. He'd posted pictures of himself doing dumb things, making stupid jokes. He felt a blush creep up his neck.

He considered deleting everything, then abandoned the thought. What was the point? He was already mortified. He started walking faster, the movie theater suddenly a prison. He wanted to disappear.
