The coffee mug slammed onto the desk, sloshing lukewarm liquid across the scattered papers. Sarah grabbed a handful of paper towels, her jaw tight. This whole week had been a disaster. The printer had decided to be a paper-eating monster, the marketing team kept changing their minds about the campaign, and now, this. The whispered rumors about a sale were confirmed in an all-staff email. She’d put in five years here, years that felt increasingly wasted.

Her gaze drifted to the framed photo of her and her team at the last company picnic. A hollow ache settled in her chest. She had actually enjoyed that. Now, just emptiness.
